Stargate is cheesy fun, and I have a soft spot for it, because the hero is an academic - a language expert who everyone ignores until he's the only one who can figure out how the gate works. The science, though, is weak. The idea that aliens built the pyramids is a classic bit of pseudoscience, and it sells the ancient Egyptians short (they were perfectly capable of building them themselves!). The Stargate itself is essentially magic dressed up as science fiction. But it's an enjoyable adventure all the same.
