Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

This one is personal. Indiana Jones was inspirational to me, because here was a blockbuster hero who was a university professor! He's possibly the coolest scientist ever put on screen (sorry, Mark Watney). To be honest, though, the science is marginal to the story. Real fieldwork involves a lot more careful digging and note-taking and a lot less running away from giant boulders. And the ending is supernatural rather than scientific, which is why the science score is low. But as pure entertainment it's hard to beat, and it made being an academic look like the best job in the world.
